Lutalyse® Solution

Description

  • Prostaglandin is used for the control of oestrus and as an aid in the control of reproduction dependent on a corpus luteum in the cow and mare, and is used to induce farrowing in sows.
  • This product contains the naturally occurring prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α or dinoprost) as the trometamol salt. Each mL contains dinoprost trometamol equivalent to 5 mg dinoprost, also benzyl alcohol 16.5 mg, and water for injection.

The Zoetis Advantage

Cattle

Lutalyse Injectable Prostaglandin is the most thoroughly researched – and the most widely used – prostaglandin in the world. It contains the naturally occurring prostaglandin dinoprost trometamol, so metabolic pathways for degradation of this compound already exist. Within 3 hours of treatment, Lutalyse has cleared the body, reducing the potential for side effects. In trials, Lutalyse was administered at up to 10 times the recommended dosage with no detrimental side effects.

  • Natural prostaglandin with rapid metabolism. Fast action reduces possible side effects
  • In an oestrus synchronisation program, helps produce more uniform groups of calves that are easier to manage
  • High safety factor – the most thoroughly researched prostaglandin in the world
  • Ideal dose size for ease of administration
  • Excellent syringe-ability at low temperatures
  • Robust molecule at both high and low ambient temperatures
  • Is the basis for several excellent breeding management programs for beef cows and heifers.

Mares

  • Lutalyse contains the most researched prostaglandin available
  • The active ingredient in Lutalyse is the naturally occurring prostaglandin F2α, which all mammals have the innate ability to process.
  • Lutalyse was evaluated in 122 Standard bred and Thoroughbred mares that were in clinical anoestrus for an average of 58 days and then treated with 5 mg of Lutalyse® during the breeding season. Behavioural oestrus was detected in 81% of the mares at an average of
  • 3.7 days after injection. Ovulation occurred an average of 7 days after treatment.
  • During oestrus, 59% of those mares bred were pregnant after an average of 1.4 services.

Sows

  • Used prepartum, Lutalyse
  • Lets you control farrowing dates for practical all-in, all-out production, up to 90% of treated gilts and sows farrow in a 24 hour interval
  • Makes better use of cross-fostering
  • Reduces labour costs
  • Improves the movement of pigs through the farrowing house

Dosage

Cattle

  • 5 mL (25 mg) for all indications and sizes of cattle. For abortion the result gets progressively less reliable after about day 75 of the pregnancy. Use to induce parturition after day 270. Mares 1 mL (5 mg) for all indications. Between 5 and 35 days post-service an administration of a single dose of Lutalyse® has been successfully used to terminate pregnancy.

Sows

  • 2 mL (10 mg). The sows must not be induced any earlier than 3 days before their natural farrowing date.

Pack Sizes

  • 30 mL and 100 mL multi-dose vials.

Storage

  • Store below 30oC (room temperature)

Registered Label Warnings

Contraindications

  • Do not administer to pregnant cows unless parturition induction or abortion is desired, to pregnant mares unless abortion is desired, or to pregnant sows and gilts unless parturition is desired. Do not administer intravenously.
  • Parturition induction in pigs earlier than 72 hours before predicted farrowing date may result in piglet mortalities.
  • Do not treat cattle, horses or pigs suffering from acute or sub-acute disorders of the vascular system, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system or reproductive tract.

Precautions

Do not allow pregnant women, asthmatics or persons with bronchial or other respiratory problems to administer this product. Spills of Lutalyse on the skin should be washed off immediately with soap and water.
