Equivac® T

Description

  • Equivac T is used in the prevention of tetanus due to Clostridium tetani
  • Equivac T is one of a range of Equivac products available for tetanus treatment and control
  • Equivac T is approved for use in horses, dogs, cattle, sheep, goats and pigs
  • Equivac T is approved for use as a diluent with Canvac® 3 and Canvac® 4

Pack Sizes

  • 1 mL syringes
  • 10 mL multi-dose vial

Advantages

  • Equivac T provides a practical means of vaccinating against tetanus alone in horses where strangles immunisation is not required
  • Prevention of tetanus: A single dose of Equivac T given to an unimmunised horse at the time of wounding or surgery may not prevent tetanus. For short-term prevention of tetanus, Equivac TAT should also be used. See entry for Equivac TAT
  • Combined Active-Passive Protection: Equivac T can be administered simultaneously with Equivac TAT. A separate needle and syringe should be used for each product and administration should be on opposite sides of the body. If initiating a primary course the second dose of Equivac T should be administered 4 to 6 weeks later
  • Zoetis offers a guarantee against tetanus infection if horses are vaccinated by veterinarians with Equivac T in accordance with the guidelines of the Equine Infectious Diseases Advisory Board and the dose is registered with the Hendra Registry

Clinical Use

  • See product leaflet for full instructions
  • 1 mL injected intra-muscularly for horses. Other species receive 1 mL subcutaneously
  • For primary immunisation of horses against tetanus, horses 3 months of age and older should be given 2 doses at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks, followed by a booster 12 months later. Further boosters for tetanus are recommended by the Equine Infectious Diseases Advisory Board every 12 months for maximal protection against tetanus infection
