Equivac® TAT

Description

  • Equivac TAT is used in the treatment and prevention of tetanus due to Clostridium tetani
  • Equivac TAT is one of a range of Equivac products available for tetanus treatment and control
  • Equivac TAT is not a vaccine. It is a purified concentrated hyperimmune antiserum containing antibodies to tetanus toxin
  • Equivac TAT is approved for use in horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and dogs

Presentation

  • 1 mL syringes
  • 10 mL multi-dose vial

Advantages

  • Equivac TAT provides a means of immediate protection against tetanus where the animal is not vaccinated
  • Combined Active-Passive Protection: Equivac T or Equivac® 2in1 can be administered simultaneously with Equivac TAT. A separate needle and syringe should be used for each product and administration should be on opposite sides of the body. If initiating a primary course the second dose of Equivac T or Equivac 2in1 should be administered 4 to 6 weeks later

Clinical Use

  • See product leaflet for full instructions
  • Prevention of tetanus: Horses and foals and adult cattle: not less than 1 mL (1500 iu) injected subcutaneously (s/c). Calves, sheep, goats and pigs: not less than 500 iu s/c. Dogs: not less than 250 iu s/c. Lambs and piglets: not less than 100 iu s/c
  • Treatment of clinically diagnosed tetanus: 10000-20000 u injected slowly intravenously. Antitoxin as a treatment is less successful than as a prevention. Equivac TAT as a treatment is best given early in the disease
  • Withholding periods for food producing species: zero (0) days
  • For horses, Equivac TAT should remain at a preventative level in the plasma for 2-3 weeks
